Saw Show People at the Music Box this weekend and yesterday I finally got around to seeing The Artist and the inadvertent silent film double feature was ugh so good.
Those two movies are great introductions into silent film if you’ve never dipped your toe in that pool before. Both revolve around what it is to be famous and successful in Hollywood(land) and the pain that celebrity inevitably brings. But also, also! both are unabashed in their love for the movies. It’s all very “Hooray for Hollywood”.
It’s movie magic, plain and simple.
Just watch them.
Sidenote: The Music Box is showing silent films second Saturday of every month. Pretty legit experience with the live organ music and the movies being on film still.
